Day 20 - Bangkok to Hatyai

To be updated

Day 19 - Relax at Bangkok

We had a free day in Bangkok and decided to play tourist for the day. We made use of the golf cart service provided by the service apartment to get to the main road where we took a taxi to Wat Pho temple.

Upon alighting, the taxi driver informed us that we could make use of a side gate to get into the temple for free (we look like locals) By doing this, we each saved 100B. Haha.

Day 18 - Lom Sak to Bangkok

We set off early at 0900hr as we had 400km to cover today.

Not much to write about as the road was pretty boring and straight forward. We felt that as we got within 100km of Bangkok, around the Saraburi area, the traffic got noticibly heavier and there were much more reckless drivers. We had to be extra vigilant and kept to the road shoulders most of the time.

Just outside Atuttaya area, we stopped for fuel and I got a message from my brother informing me that he was already in Bangkok and was staying at a service apartment at Suhumvit Road Soi 38.

I immediately requested him to check for availability and place a reservation for me.  We're just to lazy to ride around the crowded streets of Bangkok to look for a place to stay. Soon after we got confirmation that a large service apartment with 2 rooms at 'Mansion 38' had been booked for 2040B a night.

It was already dark when we arrived at 1900hrs. We quickly washed up and went out via taxi to have dinner at Patpong night market.

After a hearty dinner at Pizza Hut, we want to go to the countdown party at Central World.

All of the taxis we tried refused to bring us there as they say all the roads in the area are jammed. Time was running out. It was 2320hr when we decided to take the BTS train to get there instead. A quick check on our smart phones confirmed that we were to go to Chit Lom BTS station. As we arrived, we understood why the taxis wouldn't go there, all the roads in the area were closed and the whole place was jammed packed with people. 100,000 at least.

We hustled and shoved our way through the crowds and made it just in time for the countdown and the fireworks display. The atmosphere was electrifying.

After the countdown party, we took a 30 min walk to Nana plaza where I met my brother to have a few beers before returning to the service apartment to rest after a full day of riding.
