Day 10 - Thakhek to Savannakhet

We went out on our bikes at 1000hr to look for some breakfast but were promptly stopped by the local police because we got our headlights on.

After a 100,000kips extortion, we were on our way. I was pissed.. What the hell??

After breakfast, we went back to the hotel and I disconnected my bike's headlight so that I won't be fined again.

At 1500hr, after riding for about 120km, we arrived at Savannakhet town. The town is significantly bigger than both Pakxan and Thakhek.

Jimmy decided that it was time to send his bike in for servicing. He initially wanted to do an oil change and adjust the valve clearance.

Time for lunch and we had a nice baguette each.

Upon closer inspection by the mechanics, it was recommended that he change the connecting rod as well. This means engine overhaul needed!

He was quoted 510,000kips for the engine overhaul.

Meanwhile his bike will be left at the bike shop till 1400hr tomorrow. Meanwhile he will be my pillion as we roam around town.

We checked in to the very pleasant Leena Guesthouse which is about 300m from the bike shop. The guy receptionist is very knowledgeable and speaks good English and Mandrian.

We had a very very good Duck rice set for dinner.

Rode a few rounds around town and went for a very good Laotian tiger balm massage and it was time to call it a night.
